Direct answer

Our Surabaya desk covers Tanjung Perak, Teluk Lamong, Gresik, Lamongan and the East Java anchorages. The work is cargo outturn and loading supervision, project and heavy-lift cargo out of the Lamongan and Gresik fabrication yards, plus pre-purchase and pre-docking surveys around the Surabaya shipyard cluster.

Surabaya is Indonesia’s second commercial gateway and its densest shipbuilding and repair cluster. That combination shapes the survey work: cargo and quantity survey on one side, and yard-related condition, docking and new-build inspection on the other.

Project cargo and load-out from the fabrication yards

The Gresik and Lamongan yards ship modules, jackets, cranes, transformers and process equipment. Load-out is where the money is at risk, and it happens once.

  1. Pre-shipment condition survey. The module photographed and described before it moves, with a written condition statement. Without this, every scratch found at destination is arguable.
  2. Load-out attendance. Ballasting sequence on the barge, ramp and linkspan condition, skidding or SPMT operation, and the barge’s trim and stability through the operation.
  3. Sea-fastening inspection. Grillage, welding, packing and lashing checked against the approved design, with weld inspection where specified.
  4. Towage approval. Tug bollard pull against the calculated requirement, towing gear condition, voyage plan and weather criteria — issued as an approval or a conditional approval.
  5. Discharge attendance. Condition at arrival compared against the pre-shipment record, so any damage is located in time as well as in space.

Yard work: pre-docking, docking and new-build

The single most effective survey in the Surabaya yards is the pre-docking condition survey, carried out two to four weeks before the vessel arrives. It converts an open-ended docking into a priced scope, and it means the steel is ordered before the vessel is on blocks. Thickness measurement planning at the same time — see hull and machinery survey — routinely takes days off the docking.

New-build stage inspection is the other high-value engagement here: inspection at keel laying, at frame and plating stages, before tank testing and before closing out compartments. Work inspected after it is buried is work you cannot inspect.

Frequently asked questions

Do you attend cargo surveys at Tanjung Perak?

Yes, including outturn, tally, damage assessment and loading and lashing supervision, at both Tanjung Perak and Teluk Lamong.

Can you supervise a project cargo load-out at Lamongan or Gresik?

Yes — pre-shipment condition, load-out attendance, sea-fastening inspection and towage approval, as one engagement or separately.

Do you carry out pre-docking surveys for Surabaya yards?

Yes, and we recommend two to four weeks before the docking window so the defect list and steel requirement reach the yard before the vessel does.

Do you do new-build inspection at East Java yards?

Yes, at agreed stages. Stage inspection is far more useful than a single delivery survey because structural work is progressively enclosed.

Do you attend ship-to-ship transfers in the Madura Strait?

Yes — quantity survey, fender and mooring arrangement observation, and condition attendance.

Is the Surabaya desk able to cover Banyuwangi and Madura?

Yes, by road and ferry, normally within a day. Give us the vessel and ETA and we will confirm.
