Our surveyors are attributed at desk level rather than by published personal profile. Each engagement states the attending surveyor’s relevant background and vessel-type experience directly to the client, and the report carries the surveyor’s declaration of independence and the terms under which it was produced.
Most survey websites publish a page of photographs and biographies. We do not, and it is worth explaining why rather than leaving it as an omission.
Why we publish the desk, not personalities
- Because a published biography is unverifiable marketing. Anyone can write one. The information that actually matters to you — has this surveyor inspected forty of these hulls or none — is given to you directly, in the engagement, where it is a representation we are accountable for.
- Because attendance is assigned by fit, not by fame. The surveyor who attends a coal draft survey at Muara Berau is not the surveyor who attends a catamaran pre-purchase at Benoa. Publishing a hero profile encourages the wrong question.
- Because the desk carries the work. Report quality control, peer review of technical findings and the standing of the report are institutional rather than personal.
What you are told before you commit
Stated in every engagement
- The attending surveyor’s relevant sea-going, shipyard or inspection background.
- Their experience on your vessel type and on the specific survey type instructed.
- Any professional membership grade held by that individual, stated accurately — including where none is held.
- Any conflict of interest, disclosed in writing before we accept the instruction.
- Who will review the report before it is issued.
How our surveyors are selected
Attending surveyors come from three backgrounds and we deploy them accordingly. Sea-going engineers and masters handle machinery, commercial condition and statutory-adjacent work. Shipyard and naval-architecture backgrounds handle structural work, thickness measurement, new-build stage inspection and damage assessment. Cargo and quantity specialists handle draft, bunker, cargo condition, tally and outturn. Yacht and small-craft work draws on people who have actually built, repaired and run these boats — GRP laminate work, rig assessment and traditional timber construction are craft knowledge, not textbook knowledge.
Review before issue
Every report is reviewed before issue against a fixed internal standard: that the scope and limitations are complete and honest, that findings are described with location and consequence rather than adjectives, that measured data supports any grading, that photographs are referenced, and that the conclusion answers the instruction. Reports that fail review go back rather than out.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there no surveyor profiles on this site?
Because published biographies are unverifiable and encourage the wrong question. You are told the attending surveyor’s relevant background and vessel-type experience directly, in writing, before you commit.
Can I ask who will attend my survey?
Yes, and we will tell you their relevant background before you confirm the engagement.
Do your surveyors hold professional memberships?
Where an individual holds a membership grade it is stated accurately for that engagement. We do not claim institutional accreditation at brand level that the desk does not hold — see accreditations and standards.
Is the same surveyor available for a re-inspection?
Wherever possible, yes — continuity matters when closing out recommendations against an earlier report.
Who signs the report?
The attending surveyor, on behalf of the desk, with the declaration of independence and the terms of the engagement attached.
Do you use subcontracted surveyors?
In ports without a resident desk we sometimes appoint a vetted local attending surveyor under our own scope, method and review. Where that happens it is stated in the engagement, not hidden.
Ask who will attend
Send the vessel details, the port where she lies and your target date. We reply with surveyor availability, a written scope and a fee band before anyone boards.
