Accreditations & Standards — Stated Factually

Accreditation claims are the easiest thing on a survey website to fake and the hardest for a client to check. We would rather publish a short honest page than a long impressive one.

What we are

• An independent marine survey and inspection desk operating across Indonesia.
• A specialist maritime brand under Juara Holding Group, with survey engagements contracted through PT Komodo Galangan Nusantara.
• A practice that carries professional indemnity cover, the limit and terms of which are stated in the engagement conditions supplied with each instruction.

What we are not

• Not a classification society. We do not issue class certificates and we cannot assign, maintain or reinstate class.
• Not a recognised organisation. We do not act on behalf of any flag administration and we do not issue statutory certificates.
• Not an approved thickness measurement firm for class purposes. Thickness measurement for class renewal must be carried out by a firm approved by the society concerned and witnessed by its surveyor. We carry out owner’s and buyer’s thickness measurement for condition, valuation and insurance purposes, and the report says which it is.
• Not a certifying body for tonnage. Tonnage certificates for Indonesian-flag vessels are issued under the authority of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation. We measure, prepare and attend.
• Not an accredited laboratory. Oil, fuel and cargo analysis is carried out by accredited laboratories and reported with their own certificate attached.

Professional membership

Marine surveying is not a licensed profession in most jurisdictions, including Indonesia. There is no single register that makes a surveyor legitimate. What exists is professional bodies — the International Institute of Marine Surveying is the best known internationally — that admit individual members by experience and examination.

Where an individual surveyor attending your vessel holds a membership grade of a professional body, we state the body and the grade for that engagement. We do not display institutional membership badges at brand level, because a brand does not hold an individual membership grade, and displaying one as though it did would be exactly the kind of claim this page exists to avoid.

Standards we work against

Working against a standard is not the same as being accredited by its owner, and we keep the two separate. The frameworks our reports assess condition against are set out in full on the methodology page: class renewal criteria for structural wastage, the applicable international conventions for statutory condition, standard draft survey methodology for quantity, and established small-craft practice for yacht work.
